Please pray for our Grade 2 students as they make final preparations for their First Holy Communion this Sunday!  A special Mass will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The students, with the help of their teachers and parents, have been working diligently to be ready for this special time.  Congratulations also to three of our older students, Maddy Marshal, Iliana Salazar, and Joseph Janisse who are also receiving First Communion this weekend. We are very proud of our students and we appreciate their reverence and faithfulness. They truly believe in the power of the Body & Blood of Jesus Christ!

Dear Parents and Students  -  I came across some old writings and would like to share them with some updates. I was looking over some previous notes, and the bulk of the message spoke to my spirit as important and relevant for today. I have whittled a bit here and there, but the core remains.  This is my 26th year as a principal within the Diocese. My 31st overall as I taught junior high language arts in my first five years of teaching, along with some religion, PE, and computers as needed. This is my 21st here at St. Charles Borromeo School. I would like to think that our school is always going in the right direction, and that as a leader I am open to criticism and ideas and suggestions that may make me uncomfortable or agitated.  The reality is that there is always room for improvement, new ideas, and constructive questioning and criticism.  And, wait for it . . . I will always be making mistakes.  Of course, I get too impatient, prideful, and defensive at times.  I also can be tone deaf.  And, if I surround myself with only ‘Yes’ people, then I cannot grow as a person, and I risk feeding a closed atmosphere within our school.
We do not want a school closed to new ideas, be they big and bold, or subtle and personal. We want a community of encouragement and support, but not blind allegiance that overlooks concerns and tunes out suggestions.  We want a community of energy, some friction, questions and ideas.  So speak up.  Write a note.  Draw me a picture if needed, but do not hold it inside and let it fester.  Become a part of the solution. At least have the discussion so that we may learn from each other.
We want a community that works in humility, honesty, and openness. A place where when wrong, we apologize. When unjust, incorrect, or simply wrong, then we provide justice, correct the situation, right the wrong. We work to see one another and hear one another and care about one another. This is the Way. Thank you for your children.  Sincerely - Rob S.

Spring Concert! The annual Spring Concert is Thursday, May 5, at 7:00 pm in the Hession Center gym. Performing will be our Orchestra students (Beginning, 2nd Year, Intermediate, and Advanced - 46 students strong!), our Band students (Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced - 35 students strong!), and our 10 member Choir. We are happy to have organized our choir again this spring after two years of not singing. We are also pleased with the number of students who picked up instruments and are learning how to create tones and pitches to create music! The students want to share what they have learned with us this year. This will be a delightful evening for all! At the end of the concert, two eighth grade students will receive awards from the Fine Arts Boosters. All are then invited to enjoy an ice cream treat as you visit with friends in the Hession Center Lobby or outdoors.
Parents, the students have received directions regarding concert attire and time to report for “warming up.” Please check your email for a message from the directors or your child’s book bag for a written note!
