Further School News:  Last weekend was very active for many of our students.  Here are some highlights & reminders!
   a. On Friday evening our Advanced and Intermediate Band students participated as members of the St. Cecilia Band at Bishop Luers High School.  Ms. Bassett, our Band Director, assisted with direction and our students joined with multiple other Catholic school students from our neighboring parishes.  The band did an excellent job coming together on short notice and putting on such a strong performance!
   b. On Saturday, Mrs. Knox, our Art Teacher, had a robust St. Charles Borromeo student art display together as our students’ work was featured at the annual FAME Festival at the Grand Wayne Center.  All week students were buzzing about which individual piece of theirs had been selected for the Festival. It was great to be back together as a Fine Arts Fort Wayne Community and to see all of the innovative and lovely pieces on display from schools all over the county, especially those of our St. Charles Borromeo students!
   c. Also on Saturday, SCBS had six students participating in the Regional Science Fair at PFW.  Judging took place with viewing for the public at noon. I was able to pop in and say ‘hello’ to our older students, but missed the younger competitors. There has been a bit of delay in official communications from PFW, so we will update next week listing all of our participants and their official awards and commendations. Yes, some have advanced to the State competition! Look for more next week!
   d. Assessment of Religious Knowledge (ARK): Per FWSB Diocesan mandate, all students in grades 2-8 will participate in the Assessment of Religious Knowledge on Tuesday, April 12. This is a comprehensive online assessment of Catholic knowledge and beliefs approximately 30-40 minutes in length. The resultant data will identify areas of strength and of needed growth annually. Parent reports will be sent home after the results are returned to us.
   e. Students are required to have working earbuds/headphones. Many students have lost or broken theirs and need replacements. Please purchase a new set for your child if needed. Our students use ChromeBooks, ChromeTablets, or iPads in their classes and most do at home as well. As indicated on the student supply list, all students K-8 needed a pair of earbuds or headphones at school. Many grades requested 2 pairs so that the teacher could hold the spare pair until the student needed it. Quite a few students are requesting the use of our few loaner pairs and we are unable to accommodate them. Parents, please ask your student(s) if they still have and are able to use their earbuds or headphones for class or not. If your student has a set that doesn’t work, please purchase a replacement. We really don’t want students to miss the audio portion of the various apps or websites they are using. After Easter, students in grades 3-8 will be taking the annual ILEARN assessments. A portion of this state assessment does have an audio portion and earbuds/headphones are required.  Thank you!
   f. Uniform Shorts may be worn after Spring Break! Try them on. No need to split your britches the first day back! Thanks!
