SCBS Summer Math & Reading Review -Keep brains active! Gain ground academically!
Overall, this has been a positive year, and we thank our Students and Teachers for their good work! We grew academically this year, and we are looking forward to hitting the ground running this August. We feel that continuing with some academic summer activities will be beneficial for all students involved. With student growth and success in mind, we will again be offering summer learning opportunities for our students!
Grades PK & K will be sending home paper packets of review materials that parents can help work through with their children. Additionally, students currently in grades K-8 will have access to online activities that are a continuation of our St. Charles Math & Reading curriculums. Teachers will be sending home information to help parents assist their students with logging in and using IXL and/or iReady this summer.

iReady:  Students can complete lessons and quizzes on their Individual Student Path. It is at each student’s individual learning level. First students watch a video and complete an interactive tutorial, then they take a quiz. They can repeat this process as many times as they wish!

IXL:   There are several ways to utilize this platform. ANY of these ideas work great! Please do not view all of these options as a to-do list, but rather encourage your kids to stay sharp on skills and explore different options. ANY extra time spent in the summer staying sharp on math and reading skills will be beneficial for your child. :)

**EACH Math IXL Lesson has a short, helpful VIDEO for students that is JUST focused on that skill. Encourage your students to WATCH those videos for guidance! :) Moreover, if a skill is still difficult for your child, IXL suggests “Work it Out: Not feeling ready yet? These can help” skills at the bottom that students can try first.

A. Students can complete the recommended lessons (click here for each grade level’s list) that were deemed “high priority standards” and/or the beginner standards that will be reviewed at the start of next school year.
→ Type the 3-character code (of the skill you’re choosing to work on) in the search bar on top and press enter.

B. Students can work on the diagnostic – “step into the arena” – and then see which lessons IXL suggests on their Recommendations Wall based on what they show in the diagnostic. Here is a video that explains this option: IXL Diagnostic Video.
→ Click the ASSESSMENT tab.

C. Students can work from their NWEA Skills Plan. This skill plan is unique to EACH student based on how they performed on the Spring NWEA test. These are not skills they know yet, but rather skills that IXL thinks they would be ready to learn based on how they performed on NWEA. Here is a video that explains how to get to this option: How to Access IXL NWEA Skills Plan.
→ Hover over the LEARNING tab. Click SKILLS PLANS. Click your PERSONAL MAP SKILLS PLAN.

D. Students can choose which current or future (or past if they would like to review) grade level skills by picking and choosing from that grade level’s options. (They can also click Recommendations and choose from those, too!)
→ Hover over the LEARNING tab. Choose MATH SKILLS or LANGUAGE ARTS SKILLS. Select a grade level.
